Hate housework but love a tidy home?  Here are some suggested daily housecleaning tasks that will help keep your home neat and presentable without spending all day cleaning and scrubbing. Keeping up with just a few daily tasks can shorten *and* lighten your heavy cleaning time. We all love that!

These quick little do’s can become the beginnings of a daily routine.  That’s really the key to the whole thing, a daily routine.  I’ll always be grateful to the FlyLady for teaching me about daily routines and letting me know that it doesn’t matter how old you are or how behind you get.  Just jump right in where you’re at and go for it!

I try to see how fast I can finish these daily do’s, then treat myself to something I love doing ~ like crochet and knitting while watching a movie.  Mostly, I try to finish each room in 15 minutes or less.  Don’t think you can do it?  You’d be surprised…I know you CAN!

  • Make the bed/s
  • Pick up clothes, toys & anything that doesn’t belong in the room.
  • Light dusting.

These are a few of my favorite tools for keeping my home in tip top shape fast. I use my laundry sorter/cart all over the house! I have a laundry basket on top of it where I place things that don’t belong in a room (for delivery to their proper place). I toss clothes to be washed in the sorter and as the FlyLady prescribes ~ I do a load a day to keep that chaos away. It really works!

A quick dusting around the room and POOF, I’m outta there!

Cleaning the bathroom is on everyone’s list of yucky house cleaning chores, but alas, it must be done. Why not zip through these three quick tidy up tasks to make the monthly bathroom deep clean much easier to handle. The bathroom will look (and smell) great and you’ll be in and out in a jiffy!

  • Wipe the counters, sink and mirrors.
  • Swish and Swipe the toilet.
  • Pick up anything that doesn’t belong in the room.

To wipe the counters, sink, toilet tank top and lid I use microfiber cloths that I can just toss in the wash when I’m done.  They’re great for cleaning the bathroom mirrors too.

  • Pick up anything that doesn’t belong in the room.
  • Straighten up pillows, cushions, throw blankets, curtains, drapes, etc.  Straighten up magazines & the newspaper and toss any that you’re done with.
  • Light dusting.

  • Pick up anything that doesn’t belong in the room.
  • Wipe dining room table after breakfast.
  • Light dusting.

  • Unload the dishwasher if needed and reload as you go through the day.
  • Wash up any dishes that need done, then wipe out the sink.
  • Wipe the counters and stove top clean.

Do the floors quickly with a dust mop, sweeper or vacuum. See there? You can do this; I do it every day now & what a huge difference this has made at my house! Keeping the house clean and neat used to be such a major hassle that I’d leave it for the weekend.  And you know what that means – I had to spend all weekend on housework.  YUCK!

Note that “pick up anything that doesn’t belong in the room” means put it away (where it belongs) or throw it away (if it’s trash). That’s what I carry around a basket for.  I put in stuff that doesn’t belong in the room I’m in.  When I’m in the room it belongs in, I put the stuff away and I toss trash.

The right tools turn hard work into light work. I keep one of these caddies in each bathroom linen closet so that I don’t have to go hunting for them every day or every month.

My deepest gratitude to The FlyLady, who taught me so much and saved my marbles. I highly recommend her.  I noticed just today that Real Simple Magazine has a Daily Quick Cleaning Checklist.  It’s pretty good too!  Enjoy your home!

Until next time,
